Must have's for the smooth Jazz genre -- by the group "Fourplay" --
Elixir, Fourplay, Yes!, Heartfelt, (any album by this group is awesome)
Also -- Boney James is a great smooth jazz artist -- Seduction, Body Language, Sweet Thing

A few local artist: Griffen House, Tlyer James, Paper Route, Peter Barbee (if he will ever put out an EP) The Features, LLC, The Raconteurs, Derek Webb.....well there are many great local artist! I could go on. This is good for now.

I agree with everything Manley says...also adding my favorite albums:

The best of Randy Newman, or all his albums
    Jeff Buckley, Grace
    Rufus Wainwright, Want One
Belle and Sebastian, If you're feeling sinister
David Gray, Life in slow motion
    every Beatles album
The soundtrack to Dancer in the Dark by Bjork
    anything by sufjan stevens

Also, I think it would be funny if you played Neal Diamond.

Also, you should play some Bob Marley.

I'm loving the new Jason Mraz right now. Also, anything Jack White is associated with. A local flavor, as previously suggested, would be fun.... maybe some old Dolly... and I don't mean me! :)

    Some of my favorites:
    - The Beatles
    - The Eagles
    - Jack-O-Pierce
    - Sinatra
    - Phantom of the Opera Soundtrack

    ...I'll keep thinking...

For one, you do have to include local artists like The White Stripes (my favorite), Raconteurs, Jack Johnson is great, but he is also in the "generic" coffe house music genre. John Mayer is cool, maybe some Black Crowes or Counting Crowes. Stones and Beatles definitely will make a positive feel, and another fave of mine, Bob Marley has to be put in somewhere.

Great idea! Here are some great artists (in my opinion) for "ambience". Great sounds w/o being distracting:
    -Coldplay (of course :)
    -David Spencer (a local flavor)
    -Sufjan Stevens
    -Zero 7
    -Dean & Britta
    -Death Cab for Cutie
    -Feist
    -Gomez
    -Iron & Wine
    -The Shins
    -Andrew Bird
    -Sigor Ros
    -Nick Drake

    John Mayer,
    KT Tunstall,
    Colbie Calliat,
    Amy Winehouse,
    Sara Barielles

    Patty Griffin.:)

    Maybe a little classic jazz:
Miles Davis - Kind of Blue
    John Coltrane - Love Supreme
    Jim Hall - Concierto

And some rock and pop favs:
    David Mead - Indiana
    The National - Boxer
Aimee Mann - Lost in Space
    Future of Foresty - Twilight
    Radiohead - Ok Computer

    John Legend- once again

I'm very excited about this place, and I love your attitude about music. To me, it's an essential part of the coffee house experience.

I agree with (almost) all of the above. I say lots of Ryan Adams, Gillian Welch, Neil Young, and Bob Dylan.

Also, Norah Jones, Nickel Creek, Fionn Regan, Nick Drake, and Jeff Buckley all have a certain sound that goes well with a white mocha :).

It's also cool to switch genres and do some classic jazz and crooners as well.

I could go on about this for days, and with every other person's entry, I think, "I should have said that!" Looking forward to your opening!

Oh, and I also think the locals are essential--Raconteurs, Mat Kearney, MPJ, Andy Davis, Eric Wilson and Empty Hearts, etc. Supporting local business is directly related to supporting local music.

Sara Bareilles, Nickel Creek, Jack Johnson, Derek Webb are a few of my faves.

John Mayer, David Grey, Jack Johnson....would you like me to add some of my shake shake shake your booty music?! :) hehe!
Also, a friend of ours is a local artist in nashville! Chad and I have 3 of his cd's they are complete ugly mugs style...I can get copies for you or get you in contact with him to perform for live entertainment!!! He is awesome!! He and his wife are in the band together...his name and band is: Drew Holcomb and the neighbors - he has a myspace page too...Yeah! Ugly Mugs!

But seriously. I like ya'll so much.
