Dave Coleman, frontman for the local band "The Coal Men" and Ugly Mugs first employee EVER were able to get a song on the TV show "Deadliest Catch". The show has over 3.5 million viewers each week. We're very proud of Dave!
That is Courtney's 2nd place winning latte on the screen. This was a really fun event and the first of many that will happen at coffeehouses all around Nashville.
We're not ultra-competitive but a little good press never hurt a small business. Click on the banner below and send us a vote. In return we'll vote for you for 'best coffee shop customers'. Cheers!
Finally! A real website like a real company. Check it out here. It is still a work in progress but at least it isn't a splash page that says we'll be opening last summer. Thank you for your patience!
Congratulations to Courtney for winning 2nd place at the first ever Thursday Night Throwdown in Nashville. We had a great turnout with over 20 competitors and many more people in attendance to cheer on their favorite baristas. It was great to see the coffee community come together in a fun and competitive atmosphere. Additionally, many of the competition lattes were purchased and the money donated to Coffee Kids. Be on the lookout for more events from the Nashville Coffee Society and more Thursday Night Throwdowns in the coming months!
Check out the Ugly Mugs Facebook page for more pictures.
Think you have what it takes to make great latte art? Want to prove it? Thursday night May 21 at 8pm we will be hosting Nashville's first Thursday Night Throwdown. TNT was started in Atlanta as a chance for barista's to show off their latte art making skills and win some money doing it. Registration starts at 7:00pm and the competition will begin at 8pm. The event is open to the public and we will be taping the pours and projecting them on our 32" television so you can see around the crowds. Pours will be judged by a panel of judges that will include the famous Drew Park of Drew's Brews Coffee Here are the details.
Congratulations Lauren and thanks for the great quote. At least you'll get a free shirt out of the deal! We are currently planning on using East Nashville based company Mary Ink to screen print our shirts. You may be familiar with their work from the Walden Artisan Markets. We'll be rolling out a new design and have them in stock in just a few weeks.
Thank to everyone who submitted over 50 entries and nearly one hundred of you that voted.
Here they are. Narrowed down from over 50 entries to 10 semi-finalists and finally to these final six. In order to vote, leave a comment and place the letter to the corresponding quote you want to see on our t-shirts. The voting will end at midnight on Monday, May 4. We're giving you a little longer due to the slowness in selecting finalists due to the minor scooter accident that set us back a few days. Our apologies. And thanks so much to everyone for the amazing well-wishes. East Nashville really is the best neighborhood there is. So here they are....
A) Find inner beauty. Embrace Ugly Mugs.
B) The sun is out, the door is up, what an Ugly day.
C) Who needs a lawnmower to drink coffee anyway.
D) The Mugs may be Ugly, but it's what's inside that counts.
We had so much fun last time with our t-shirt quote contest that we're doing it again. Here is how you can see your name on our next round of t-shirts: (1) in the comments of this post, submit an original quote that would be printed on our t-shirts crediting you as the author; (2) we'll pick 3 finalists from all the entries; and (3) you will vote for your favorite. Most votes wins....it is as simple as that. We will select the 3 finalists on April 25 (plenty of time to think of something great) and voting will be open between April 25 and April 30. Have fun, keep it clean!
Thank you to the Nashville Scene and Lee Stabert for the review. You can read it here.
Let us say that at six months old we are completely honored and humbled by the support that we have received, the people we've met and the community that we've seen develop here. Thanks to all you for that. We will continue to constantly tinker, trying to find the perfect combination of service, atmosphere and great coffee to serve our community.
