That is Courtney's 2nd place winning latte on the screen. This was a really fun event and the first of many that will happen at coffeehouses all around Nashville.
Congratulations to Courtney for winning 2nd place at the first ever Thursday Night Throwdown in Nashville. We had a great turnout with over 20 competitors and many more people in attendance to cheer on their favorite baristas. It was great to see the coffee community come together in a fun and competitive atmosphere. Additionally, many of the competition lattes were purchased and the money donated to Coffee Kids. Be on the lookout for more events from the Nashville Coffee Society and more Thursday Night Throwdowns in the coming months!
Check out the Ugly Mugs Facebook page for more pictures.
Think you have what it takes to make great latte art? Want to prove it? Thursday night May 21 at 8pm we will be hosting Nashville's first Thursday Night Throwdown. TNT was started in Atlanta as a chance for barista's to show off their latte art making skills and win some money doing it. Registration starts at 7:00pm and the competition will begin at 8pm. The event is open to the public and we will be taping the pours and projecting them on our 32" television so you can see around the crowds. Pours will be judged by a panel of judges that will include the famous Drew Park of Drew's Brews Coffee Here are the details.
Here they are. Narrowed down from over 50 entries to 10 semi-finalists and finally to these final six. In order to vote, leave a comment and place the letter to the corresponding quote you want to see on our t-shirts. The voting will end at midnight on Monday, May 4. We're giving you a little longer due to the slowness in selecting finalists due to the minor scooter accident that set us back a few days. Our apologies. And thanks so much to everyone for the amazing well-wishes. East Nashville really is the best neighborhood there is. So here they are....
A) Find inner beauty. Embrace Ugly Mugs.
B) The sun is out, the door is up, what an Ugly day.
C) Who needs a lawnmower to drink coffee anyway.
D) The Mugs may be Ugly, but it's what's inside that counts.
We had so much fun last time with our t-shirt quote contest that we're doing it again. Here is how you can see your name on our next round of t-shirts: (1) in the comments of this post, submit an original quote that would be printed on our t-shirts crediting you as the author; (2) we'll pick 3 finalists from all the entries; and (3) you will vote for your favorite. Most votes wins....it is as simple as that. We will select the 3 finalists on April 25 (plenty of time to think of something great) and voting will be open between April 25 and April 30. Have fun, keep it clean!
Thank you to the Nashville Scene and Lee Stabert for the review. You can read it here.
Let us say that at six months old we are completely honored and humbled by the support that we have received, the people we've met and the community that we've seen develop here. Thanks to all you for that. We will continue to constantly tinker, trying to find the perfect combination of service, atmosphere and great coffee to serve our community.
The scene at the Family Wash today during the Second Line for the memorial of Melissa Duke-Mooney. We were humbled to be a part of it. This picture in no way, shape or form captured the emotions or breadth of the event and the number of people that were out to support.
This Saturday at 3:30pm treat your kids to a fun concert before treating yourself to a Valentine's treat. Local musicians Jason Levasseur and Brian Oaks will be performing a concert for the whole family in the coffee house. We'll have plenty of valentine's day treats, heart shaped cookies, red velvet cupcakes and more available. Big thanks for Jason and Brian for wanting to do this show. See you Saturday afternoon!
Guess what....we are now twittering (or is it called tweeting, or chirping or updating people faster than the speed of light as to what you are doing-ing). Either way, we'll be updating you on upcoming events and specials, maybe even a surprise or two. Follow us here.
Alright, we asked for your help with our music library and you came through big time on that one. Now it's time for you to lend us your creative minds again. This time however, we're asking you to give us a quote for the backside of our new T-shirts. It's simple, leave us a comment with an original quote. The winning quote will be printed on our next shirts, along with your name as the author. We are open to anything, but obviously we will not print t-shirts that are not clean or are offensive. The ideal quote would have something to do with Ugly Mugs, being ugly (or not), coffee, east Nashville etc. etc. We're looking forward to what you have to say. We will choose a winner and it and will be announced October 24 right here on this blog. Have fun and good luck!
