That is Courtney's 2nd place winning latte on the screen. This was a really fun event and the first of many that will happen at coffeehouses all around Nashville.
Congratulations to Courtney for winning 2nd place at the first ever Thursday Night Throwdown in Nashville. We had a great turnout with over 20 competitors and many more people in attendance to cheer on their favorite baristas. It was great to see the coffee community come together in a fun and competitive atmosphere. Additionally, many of the competition lattes were purchased and the money donated to Coffee Kids. Be on the lookout for more events from the Nashville Coffee Society and more Thursday Night Throwdowns in the coming months!

Think you have what it takes to make great latte art? Want to prove it? Thursday night May 21 at 8pm we will be hosting Nashville's first Thursday Night Throwdown. TNT was started in Atlanta as a chance for barista's to show off their latte art making skills and win some money doing it. Registration starts at 7:00pm and the competition will begin at 8pm. The event is open to the public and we will be taping the pours and projecting them on our 32" television so you can see around the crowds. Pours will be judged by a panel of judges that will include the famous Drew Park of Drew's Brews Coffee Here are the details.
As you know on our Grand Opening day last weekend, we did a drawing with the winner to receive free coffee for a year - the "Ugliest Mug" contest if you will. And the first winning ticket we drew...was blank. The next ticket had been filled out by Brian Donahue of East Nashville. Here is what Brian had to say about winning.

Although I was aware that there was some serious competition, I knew that I was a front runner. After all, I'm not just another pretty face.
Winning the first Ugly Mugs contest in East Nashville during the '08 Olympics was an unique experience. I had never won anything during a lifetime in the suburbs of New York City. Kate and I had to move to East Nashville to be accorded this honor.
When Jarod and Courtney called us with the news, my wife and I were delighted. Kate smiled and said, "How wonderful; how appropriate! It couldn't have happened to a nicer guy."
We moved here from Long Island two years ago when I retired from a career of teaching English to high-school and college students. We had visited family and friends here in Nashville for ten years previously and we found East Nashville's friendliness a magnet.
Like many others in this community, we enjoy supporting our local businesses and getting to know everyone. Ugly Mugs is a short walk from our home--two streets and an alley. I'm going to enjoy the year's worth of a free cup of coffee daily because I also have a fondness for bagels and muffins.
I'm hoping to convince Jarod to put a photograph of me in a prominent place so that you can see what an Ugly Mugs winner looks like.

Very few, but some restriction apply on the free coffee thing.
