That is Courtney's 2nd place winning latte on the screen. This was a really fun event and the first of many that will happen at coffeehouses all around Nashville.
Thank you to the Nashville Scene and Lee Stabert for the review. You can read it here.
Let us say that at six months old we are completely honored and humbled by the support that we have received, the people we've met and the community that we've seen develop here. Thanks to all you for that. We will continue to constantly tinker, trying to find the perfect combination of service, atmosphere and great coffee to serve our community.
We hope that you are as excited about 2009 as we are. Launching into our first full year in business, we expect to build on what we have started. But first, let us take an opportunity to thank you, Nashville, for being so supportive through our first few months. We have learned much from you and our experience and hope to continue to become one of many great coffeehouses this city has to offer. You have helped make our dreams come true and we thank you for that. Our resolutions for the new year....
More Music: We will have live music every Saturday night this year from a wide range of artists. We will also be reviving Americana Wednesdays hosted the first wednesday of the month by East Nashville resident Luke Amelang. We will also be having shows on the occasional weeknight. You can see our full calendar here.
More Events: We're currently looking into ways to have more events including music and story times for children, poetry nights and involvement with our neighbors at events like theWalden Artisan Market. Stay tuned for more details on this.
More offerings: Including drink specials, happy hour dessert specials, more food to go along with our breakfast and lunch panini sandwiches and Nashville's best baked goods by places like Star Bagel, Ivey Cake, EastSide Cookies and Wild Muffin.
More Contests: Including a new "Free Coffee for a Year" winner and T-shirt quote contest. Our current free coffee winner's reign will come to an end in August. For our anniversary this summer we will crown a new lucky person to over-caffeinate.
More Art: A new artist will be featured every month. This month come by and see the "Abondonment" series by local photographer and Nashville Improv actor Blake Wylie. We love this stuff. Pictures of things that were once new and beautiful and have been abandoned. The picture above is a great example of an 1830's era house that was once beautiful, then abandoned, and once again someone's home. The color, detail and thoughts about what was once great about these places and objects are amazing. These pieces are priced from $45-120 framed and additional prints will be provided by Blake upon request.
A Website: It will be neat.
As always, if you have any questions, comments or concerns, please do not hesitate to email us at info@uglymugsnashville.com.
Wishing the best to you and yours for a great 2009.
You can now enjoy fresh sandwiches daily from the Turnip Truck and beginning tomorrow (Friday) you can take breakfast old-school with some of your favorite cereals including Cheerios and Raisin Bran! Well, it may not win us any Zagat ratings, but we're going to continue to satisfy the practical needs of Nashville with some old classics. No plastics bowls or tiny boxes here; We're talking a big, spoon clanking flashback to childhood style of cereal eating. See you this weekend!
As you know on our Grand Opening day last weekend, we did a drawing with the winner to receive free coffee for a year - the "Ugliest Mug" contest if you will. And the first winning ticket we drew...was blank. The next ticket had been filled out by Brian Donahue of East Nashville. Here is what Brian had to say about winning.
----------------------------
Although I was aware that there was some serious competition, I knew that I was a front runner. After all, I'm not just another pretty face.
Winning the first Ugly Mugs contest in East Nashville during the '08 Olympics was an unique experience. I had never won anything during a lifetime in the suburbs of New York City. Kate and I had to move to East Nashville to be accorded this honor.
When Jarod and Courtney called us with the news, my wife and I were delighted. Kate smiled and said, "How wonderful; how appropriate! It couldn't have happened to a nicer guy."
We moved here from Long Island two years ago when I retired from a career of teaching English to high-school and college students. We had visited family and friends here in Nashville for ten years previously and we found East Nashville's friendliness a magnet.
Like many others in this community, we enjoy supporting our local businesses and getting to know everyone. Ugly Mugs is a short walk from our home--two streets and an alley. I'm going to enjoy the year's worth of a free cup of coffee daily because I also have a fondness for bagels and muffins.
I'm hoping to convince Jarod to put a photograph of me in a prominent place so that you can see what an Ugly Mugs winner looks like.
Brian D.

We agree with Kate, it couldn't have happened to a nicer guy. Big 'Thank You' to everyone for your continued support.
Who wants an afternoon pick-me-up? We have just the cure. Today through Friday you can come in anytime after 12pm and get a medium latte or mocha, pair it with a piece of bourbon chocolate pecan pie or a cupcake (as long as they last) from the amazing Sugar Bar for only $5. Currently we have vanilla with chocolate ganache icing and pina colada cupcakes both of which are absolutely brilliant. See you this afternoon!
